Bacterial Spot

  • Although a common disease in plums, bacterial spot damages the foliage, shoots, fruit and buds of a variety of stone fruits, including nectarines. Caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. Pruni, the disease spreads in wet conditions from blossoms to petals, causing tiny holes through the foliage, premature leaf drop and cracked fruit. Whenever possible, plant disease-resistant varieties of yellow and white nectarines such as Harflame, Fantasia, Sunbright, Emeraude and Jade. Use a preventive copper or oxytetracycline spray labeled safe for use on nectarines.
