If your spouse has problems in snoring, it's your problem too. If your spouse if sleeping and snoring at the same time, you will not get enough, especially if you sleep lightly. The following are some of the causes of snoring: blocked air passages, partial blockage of the sinus passages, poor muscles of the throat and the tongue and obesity which is the most common of all.

A couple of solutions and treatments have been tested to resolve snoring. Some of these anti snoring devices are found effective but not true to all people who are snoring. So you must bring first your spouse to the doctor and find out its specific cause before you try any of the methods and devices for snoring.

Behavioral modifications and improved lifestyles are said to be effective to stop snoring. It is known that losing weight is the ultimate solution to one of the main causes of snoring which is obesity.

Weight loss is gerat for your general well-being and not merely to stop your snoring. To avoid smoking and alcohol can help to solve the snoring concern since these two are also major causes of snoring.

If it is brought about by those that belong to the behavioral changes, then perhaps it is indeed the partial blockage or narrowing of the air passages that are in turn caused by the falling back of your tongue and palate while you are at sleep. Snoring devices that are suited for this problem are called dental devices. These dental devices are similar to a mouthpiece and may reduce snoring up to 70-90%. There are some feedbacks to the device, however. This has to be worn each night and since it keeps the mouth open, this can cause discomfort on the person who uses the device.

For those people with narrow nasal passages, nasal devices or medication can lessen snoring. Breath-rite strips can help but not at all times, if the area of the narrowing is the front part of the nose. If the nasal mucosa is swelling because of allergy or irritation, a decongestant nasal spray will be of use. This kind of causative agent that causes the snoring is temporary and easy to treat.

Another tool is called the Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). This is often suggested to people who have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. The person is to wear a mask with a tube connected to a pump and keep the pressure of air at a higher level. The pressure will prevent the airway from narrowing during the inhaling and exhaling. The pressure can be adjusted by the person using the device. The problem with the CPAP is noisy, bulky, and uncomfortable for the person to wear it every night.

You can find other OTC or over the counter anti snoring devices available but some are not proven medically yet and thus are not recommendable for your snoring problem.
