How to Bale Cornstalks
- 1). Remove the chopper from the rear of the combine before harvesting corn so that whole leaves and husks will drop to the ground with the stalks.
- 2). Rake the cornstalks into rows with a tractor-drawn hay rake so that they will feed into the intake of a hay baler. If the moisture content is too high, the stalks can be raked a second time which turns the row over to increase drying.
- 3). Adjust the baler to make the largest and firmest bale possible. Every make and model of hay baler is adjusted differently, so refer to your owner's manual. A farm implement dealer can also help you adjust bale size and firmness.
