How to Paint Designs on Dinner Plates
- 1). Choose or sketch your design. If you're working with a premade image, shrink it to the appropriate size. Simple line drawings and bold patterns lend themselves most readily to this craft project.
- 2). Cut excess paper away from your design so the finished piece of paper fits on the dinner plate's surface.
- 3). Cut a piece of carbon paper the size of your design, and place it with the carbon side down onto your dinner plate.
- 4). Tape down the edges to prevent the carbon paper from shifting.
- 5). Position your image on top of the carbon paper, and tape it down.
- 6). Trace the outlines of your image with a ballpoint pen. Apply a little pressure to ensure that the carbon transfers to the dinner plate's surface.
- 7). Remove the image and carbon paper from your dinner plate, and clean off any unwanted carbon marks with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.
- 8). Shake the porcelain ink pen, and remove its cap. Before drawing on your dinner plate, blot the pen on a piece of waste paper. If you're using a pen for the first time, gently push on the tip to begin releasing ink.
- 9). Draw over the carbon outline with your porcelain pen. If you make a mistake, clear it away with an alcohol-soaked cotton swab, and allow the area to dry before painting on top of it.

Place dried plates in your oven, and turn the temperature to 300 degrees F. Bake for 35 minutes, then turn off the oven and allow the dinner plates to cool before removing them.
