What Food Helps Get Rid of Acne?
- Vitamin A gets rid of acne in two ways. First, it aids in the proper production of hormones. Overproduction of hormones can lead to clogged pores, which leads to sebum buildup. Secondly, it aids in skin growth, which helps keep pores healthy. Foods rich in vitamin A are leafy vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, kale and apricots. Other foods include pumpkins, watermelon, cantaloupe, sweet potatoes, mangoes and butternut squash. However, it is not recommended to take Vitamin A supplements to combat acne as it can only be ingested in the presence of fat. Excess vitamin A from supplements can cause damage to the liver and to the nervous system. Only take vitamin A supplements if it is approved by your doctor.
- Vitamin B6 is pyridoxine, which helps prevent acne by battling bacterial infection whenever there is sebum buildup in the pores. Food rich in vitamin B6 are bananas, baked potatoes with skin, avocado, green peas, brown rice, collards greens, salmon, fish, and turkey and chicken, both preferably without skin.
- Vitamin B5 is pantothenic acid, which reduces stress in the body. Stress can cause overproduction of hormones, which leads to clogged pores. Foods rich in Vitamin B5 include mushrooms, cauliflower, sunflower seeds, tomato, strawberries, yogurt, eggs, corn and chard.
- Foods rich in thiamine, also known as vitamin B1, help the body to flush toxins. Foods such as wheat germ and lean pork have a high content of Thiamine.
- It is generally recommended to avoid a diet rich in meat, unless it is organic. However, even some organic meat can contain excess hormones that result in an imbalance, leading to clogged pores that cause acne.
