How to Join Molding With Caulk

    • 1). Apply a line of paintable/stainable caulk in the gap between the molding. Make sure you apply enough caulk to fill the gap from the wall to the front of the molding.

    • 2). Wet your finger and run it across the caulk to smooth it into place. If smoothing the caulk presses it into the crack creating another gap, then allow the caulk to dry and reapply another line until the gap is completely filled. Allow the caulk to dry completely.

    • 3). Sand the caulk by hand with a fine grit sanding block. Sand the caulk between the molding until the finish between the molding is smooth. Run a finger across the molding and caulking to check the finish.

    • 4). Wipe the molding with a soft rag to remove sanding dust. Touch up the molding and caulk with the same paint or stain used on the molding.
