Looking at dust covering a table surface does not give clues about its microscopic composition. According to Karen Youso, writing for the Twin Cities Star Tribune, dust can be comprised of -- to name only a few possibilities -- mold spores, hair, skin cells, pollen and insects. As an incentive to dust your home, Youso says the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) includes lead and other poisonous chemicals in the possible composition of dust. The composition of the dust in your house depends on where you live and what is in your home.
