    Severe Side Effects

    • If you experience numbness in the hands and feet, unusual weakness or a sore tongue, contact a doctor immediately. This is a sign of vitamin B12 deficiency and is a very rare side effect.

    Minor Side Effects

    • Minor side effects of Zegerid include diarrhea, headache, abdominal pain, dizziness, vomiting and constipation.

    Warnings

    • If you are on a low-salt diet for health reasons, do not take Zegerid, as it contains large amounts of sodium.

      Zegerid should be taken at least an hour before eating.

      If you have metabolic or respiratory alkalosis or low potassium or calcium levels, tell your doctor before taking Zegerid.

    Drug Interactions

    • Some drugs that are known to interact with Zegerid are ampicillin, Biaxin, Plavix, Antabuse, Valium, Dilantin and warfarin. Tell your doctor if you use any of these medications.

    Overdose

    • Signs of a Zegerid overdose include nausea, vomiting, sweating, dry mouth, fast heartbeat, blurred vision and confusion. Stop taking Zegerid and contact your doctor immediately if you have any of these symptoms.
