Video: How to Choose a New Hairdo
Video Transcript
Hi, I'm Louis Santalices, celebrity hairstylist. Today I'm going to talk to you about choosing a new hairstyle. I have a lot of clients who come in and they just get really stuck and really bored with their hair. They want to change it up, do something creative and something quick. So I want to take your everyday hair and to turn it around and do something really fresh. We're going to need some bobby pins, a rubber band, clips, rat tail comb, a flat brush, and some finishing spray. And to get that look, I'm going to use Mega hairspray by L'Oreal. So first what I want to do is just comb the hair through, pulling out any sort of tangles. I'm going to take my comb and I'm going to section off the crown... right here along the ridge, all around here, because this is the section that we are going to be teasing. What I want to do is create some height and some drama to the crown area, make it very current. So what I'm doing is lifting the hair on the center of the crown, back combing to add some height, some volume. So to achieve this look, you're going to need a ponytail that has really good tension and hold. So to create that, we need to have two bobby pins and a rubber band. Take the rubber band, put it on one end of the bobby pin, and then on the other side until you have something like this. And we're going to save this for later. So you just want to take your hair, pull it all the way back, and the placement of this is important. We don't want it too low. We want to add some height to it for drama and effect. And just begin to take each section back, pulling everything back. And it's okay, you know, if we have some looseness to it. It's supposed to be messy. It's supposed to not look so contrived, but it is important that we have the correct placement of it. And this is great if you already had your hair curled throughout the day. It just gives it a lot of dimension and texture. So, we want to place the bobby pin at the top of the ponytail, and then we're going to wrap the rubber band around the pony. So place this at the very top, then I'm just wrapping it around until you run out. Take the other end of the bobby pin and just make sure that it's placed in there just like that. And you can see that that is firm. Now we've completed the pony, and we're going to take a little section from underneath the ponytail and wrap it around, just to complete the look. Take your bobby pin and just make sure that it will hold. I want to take the rat tail comb, and take little sections and just begin to tease it in the opposite direction. This is going to add that messiness, that edginess. Really fun. Add drama to it. Just taking little sections at a time, over-directing the hair up. And we're going to complete this all the way through. We can take some of our hairspray... make sure that it's holding. Working my way all the way through the ponytail. Now that we've completed the teasing, we can finish it off with some hairspray - make sure that it holds. And you know, this might be a little too much for you. Be creative. You can tame it down; you can make it your own. There you go - we've completed our look. This is a great way to change up your hairstyle. I'm Louis Santalices, and thank you for watching.
