How To Gain Muscle And Lose Fat?
There is a perception (mainly by women) that doing weights will cause me to build too much muscle.
Firstly, have you seen how hard some people train at the gym and they can't build much muscle at all? Do you think you are going to be training harder and sticking to a routine more than them? Some of them go everyday to the gym and can't achieve much growth, but by working out with weight you are strengthening your muscles, which will cause them to tone up, and begin to show some shape.
If you compare two people one that only does cardio training and one that does both, you can see the better shaped body, the one that looks fit, toned and without looking 'skinny' while the other can look too 'skinny' which is normally what people are after.
But how does building muscle remove body fat? Firstly, every day you hold more muscle you actually burn more calories everyday doing the things you do normally.
So in other words you are burning more calories without doing anything more.
Secondly, when you train your muscle to that feeling where the muscle is actually burning, this burning sensation actually attracts or demands the body to send vital nutrients to that area of the body / muscle.
There are many complexities in explaining what really is going on within the body, but effectively this burning sensation (not literally burning, but heated up) helps build lean muscle and also burns away that excess body fat that may be around that area.
This is why many women focus so much on doing exercises like squats, as this burns the muscles around the bum and in particular your legs(and unfortunately for women this is where your body normally tries store any body fat, however men normally work their stomach more due to their bodies storing any body fat around their stomach).
I remember reading an article a long time ago where there was an interview with Mark Wahlberg about him saying he doesn't do any cardio workouts, only weights.
I would describe his body as ripped, not bulk, and with very little body fat (and there are many men and women who have achieved similar results without any cardio).
So with this helps you understand that removing body fat can be achieved with weight training, not just cardio workouts.
But how do you build muscle? You work it at the gym or at home with weights.
An important part of weight training is that you stress your muscles so they repair over the next couple of days, this is why many people only work 1 or 2 muscle groups a day, as this gives that muscle group almost a week for recovery.
Another important part of training your muscles is to confuse them.
This means you change your weight lifting routine, as your muscles do get use to the program you have been doing for the past 3 months.
This can be done by changing exercises, changing the number of sets and reps you do on each exercise and it can also have much to do with the speed of the reps you are doing.
However to me these things are only a small portion of training, the food you eat throughout the day is more important from my view.
Eating healthy every day, eating the right amounts of the right foods for training and splitting those nutritious meals up to be eaten throughout the day in 6 - 8 meal lots will help build that muscle but also fuel your metabolism to burn your body fat all day long.
This is the most important part of my training.
What I eat, When I Eat and how often I eat are very important to ensure I achieve my results and this is where many people lack putting in their hard work.
