Comments from developer: I have a great interest in cute, Japanese characters and soft, pastel colors, which I have used liberally throughout my site. I thought it would be interesting if each character I used in the interface would lead to a different section of the site.

Comments from Jennifer Kyrnin: This is another "huh?" page. Yes, the characters are cute, and I guessed that you probably should click on them to get to other places, but why would I click on a rabbit to get to contact information?

The one nice thing about this style of mystery navigation is that at least Jules tells you where you'll go when you mouse over the icon. If you want to do this style of design, you should remember where your visitor's mouse probably is when they get there - next to the scroll bar OR hovering by the back button. Forcing customers to move their mouse just to find out what the navigation does isn't very user-friendly. The icons really are cute, however. I can't decide if I like the rabbit or the squirrel better.
