BOTOX® cosmetic works by blocking facial nerves. BOTOX® cosmetic, or botulinum toxin type A, is injected into the patient's facial muscles in tiny amounts.
Once the nerves are blocked, they no longer stimulate the muscles surrounding the patient's problem areas. This prevents the muscles from pulling the patient's skin into "expression" lines and wrinkles, such as laugh lines, frown lines, and crow's feet.
So, what kinds of results can be expected after BOTOX® treatments? There is more than one answer to that question since outcomes from BOTOX® injections can vary from patient to patient. A large factor is the type of wrinkles that are being treated. For example, skin that has become wrinkled due to sun damage or unhealthy habits will not respond to BOTOX® injections.
