Can Kindle Books Be Converted to PDB Format?
- When you download a book from the Amazon marketplace to your Kindle, the book is encoded in Amazon's proprietary AZW eBook format. Despite the unique file extension, the AZW format doesn't reflect a distinct encoding scheme; an AZW file is nothing more than an eBook coded in the popular Mobipocket MOBI file that has a different file extension.
- Before you convert your Amazon AZW eBook to PDB you must convert the file to the MOBI format. To do so, simply copy the AZW file to your computer and open the folder that contains the file. Then right-click the file, choose "Rename" in the menu and change the file extension from .AZW to .MOBI.
- Once you've renamed your .AZW eBook to the .MOBI extension then you're ready to convert the file to the Palm PDB format. There are several conversion applications that you can download and use to convert Mobipocket eBook files such as PDB Converter Pro and Calibre. Some conversion applications are free while others require a small fee. It is relatively easy to use a conversion application; simply run the application, locate the MOBI file on your computer and convert it to the PDB format.
- If you don't want to download an application to your computer you can instead use an online file conversion service such as the free service hosted at ebook.online-convert.com. First choose "Convert to PDB" in the menu on the left side of the page, then click the "Browse" button to locate the MOBI file on your computer. Once the service converts the book to the PDB format then you can save the converted file to your hard drive.
