The Correct Way to Spell Out Dollar Amounts
- 1). Sound out dollar amounts. This is, for the most part, how you will write them. For example, $154 would read: "One hundred fifty-four dollars." Skip the "and" when separating whole numbers.
- 2). Separate decimal numbers. For example, $134.32 would read: "One hundred thirty-four dollars and thirty-two cents."
- 3). Circle dollar amount. Circling the dollar amount prevents tampering. For example, $120 would translate into: "One hundred twenty dollars" and then be enclosed with a circle.
- 1). Sound out dollar amounts. Write out dollar amounts just as they sound on the line beneath the line titled "Pay to the order of."
- 2). Write cents as "xx/100." For example, $150.42 would translate into: "One hundred fifty and 42/100."
- 3). Be sure to include a dashed line after the cents number and the word "dollar" after the dashed line. This ensures your dollar amount will not be tampered with. For example, $132.25 would translate into: "One hundred thirty-two and 25/100-------dollars."
