How to Create Your Own Communion Veil
- 1). Measure the child's head circumference at the area on which you'll place the veil. Trim the crafting wire to a length three inches longer than the child's head measurement.
- 2). Bend the wire into a circle to the head size, to create your veil frame. Wind the extra three inches around the frame to secure. Place on child's head to be sure it fits.
- 3). Secure the end of one cotton material strip to the wire with hot glue. Continue wrapping strips of cotton material around the wire to cover. Secure the last piece of fabric to the first piece of fabric with fabric glue.
- 4). Wrap the ribbon around the fabric until none of the fabric is showing. Either stitch the ribbon end to the fabric when completed, or secure the ribbon end to the fabric with fabric glue.
- 5). Lay the tulle or lace netting on a sewing table, floor, or other clean, flat surface. Do not pull or stretch the material, as tulle and netting tears easily.
- 6). Fold the material in half, then fold again until material measures 9" wide by 36" long. Fold in half across the length to produce a swath of material 9" wide by 18" long, with one end open and the other folded.
- 7). Lay a large oval platter face down near the open end of the material. Beginning at the left folded edge, cut carefully through all layers of the material along the curved edge of the platter to form a curved bottom to the veil.
- 8). Unfold the material. Refold it across the length so that the open, curved veil bottom falls in staggered layers.
- 9). Secure the folded top of the veil to the round wire veil frame with pins. Carefully stitch the folded end to the ribbon-covered frame.
- 10
Secure the frame to a sturdy object, such as a chair-back, while you add trim to the veil. - 11
Trim the curved bottom veil layers with embroidered lace or satin ribbons secured with fabric glue. Dot the layers in a random design with iridescent beads, rhinestones, or tiny pearls. - 12
Adorn the top front of the veil with white satin tea roses. Tie bows made from narrow white satin ribbon to each side and allow the ribbon to trail to the child's shoulders.
