Opera, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Chrome are a few of the numerous web browsers that users use to connect to the internet. There is obviously no other medium, except a web browser to browse the internet, read emails (web mail), obtain worldwide information, download paid or free online virus removal software, audio/video songs, and/or pay bills etc.

Since it is also true that all the malicious infections and threats like privacy intrusion and data\identity thefts travel via your web browser to your computer, you must first secure your web browser. Thus, securing your web browser is a priority and is the first step in protecting your computer from known and unknown threats. We have designed this free internet browser support guide to help you secure your browser as well as your computer.

Procedure:

Update your web browser regularly with the latest vulnerability-proof patches and updates. You can download and install them from the browser website or let the browser automatically do this task. When your browser does an automatic update, you simply have to hit the Install Now button to let it install and improve its arsenal. Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera etc., all of them prompt you to install latest updates etc. when they are available.

Upgrade your browser. Yes, if you are running an old version of a browser, it might not receive and support latest patches, updates etc. rolled out by the browser company. All the companies constantly roll out new enhancements to improve their browsers' functionality, performance, security, and compatibility with various computers. An older browser version usually does not support such enhancements and thus lack in functioning and protecting well. Thus, you must upgrade your browser to the latest version to make sure that it works to protect your computer and not expose it to the cyber threats and attacks.

Download browser plug-ins to enhance your browser's security and your computer's as well. I have mentioned a few of the good plug-ins here. These include AdBlockPlus, HTTPs, Ghostery, and Web of Trust. You must install the right version for your browser. It means if you are using Internet Explorer, download the Internet Explorer version of the plug-in and similarly for other types.

Use an antivirus program that secures your web browser besides the computer. McAfee is one such program that offers proactive insight in to the genuine and malicious websites. McAfee offers McAfee SiteAdvisor® and McAfee Browser Protection Service for protecting your browser and downloaded PDF, JPG and EXE among other file types. You must always scan the downloaded files with your antivirus program before opening them. Install a browser firewall to block unauthorized incoming traffic from coming to your computer.

Do not randomly click on the pop-ups, links, banners etc. Also, do not browse suspected websites for downloading free virus removal [http://www.vtechsquad.com/virus-removal/] software, free spyware removal software, tray clocks, toolbars, and weather software etc. Browsing adult websites can also prove harmful to your browser and computer. These websites often have malicious tracking cookies that not only track what you do online but also try to trespass your security area.

The same applies to sales, advertising, and music websites. Often, these companies hide cookies in their sales and promotion pop-ups that people often click on get trapped. They start receiving emails from the companies that they even don't know of. So abstain from clicking on and downloading free stuff like audio/video songs, free software, images, emoticons, toolbars, greeting cards, and wallpapers among other things.

Additional Tidbits:

Opera and Mozilla Firefox are generally considered to be more secured web browsers than others. Safari is also a secure browser but it is exclusively designed for Mac computers.

Block pop-ups and phishing sites while add genuine and trusted ones to your security zone. If you are using Firefox as your browser, configure it not to store your passwords by default. Use a master password for all your accounts.

Configure your browser settings to make your browser securer and safer. These settings differ for each browser type. You must check the Help menu or the browser website for more information.
