The Hardest Thing in Golf Is To Start Over

One of the hardest things to do is to back away from the ball, once you have taken your address and start your swing all over again.
A lot of miss hit shots and high scores are because of just this.
I am guilty of this myself.
It is so hard to train yourself to start over when you are in doubt.
Luckily, the rule in the game of golf allows to too just that, as long as you have not started the forward movements of your down-swing, you can halt your swing and start over without being penalized one stroke.
I have found myself in the situation where I have started my swing and an insect has landed (flown around) my ball and I got distracted enough to through my swing out of the groove.
This resulted in poor shot.
It is hard to have enough discipline to stop your swing.
However, there are plenty of times through the round, when you address the ball, l you should have started over instead of making your swing.
So, at any point in your swing, up to but not including the start of your down-swing, if you feel hesitant, doubtful, uncomfortable, should you stub your club on the ground on the back-swing or should you simply change your mind about how you wish to play your shot (as a result of a sudden last moment flash of insight), take advantage of this golf rule and start over.
Sometimes when you address the ball, you may not feel comfortable or just feel a lack of conviction.
Sometimes, you are standing over the ball with your mind racing through all the variables and feel doubtful or you may feel lack of control over the impending shot (Playing over water and thinking about going in, not over).
Maybe you're standing over the ball and something just feels wrong or you distracted by a noise.
In these cases, step away from the ball.
Take a deep breath or whatever makes you calm down (you know best) and start over again.
When you start over again, hold on to your positive, current thoughts, not the ones that made you back away.
If you need to back away again do so, relaxed and tension free is the best result for a good swing and please take the time and be comfortable and in control of your swing.
A good way to practice this is at the range.
If you set-up and practice a shot routine, pick a target and do this with every practice shot on the range.
You will carry these good habits into your game and there are enough distractions on a driving range you can teach yourself to back away and start over.
There are more bad habits than good, pick-up at the range with most average golfers.
Golf is muscle and memory training.
Always stay true to your golf swing.
