How to Attach Pillars on a Wilton Castle Cake
- 1). Ice your cake tiers and stack them together to form a two- or three-layer cake.
- 2). Decorate the turret pillars and the removable peaks with icing before you attempt to attach them to the cake. Royal icing is a stiff icing that works well for this purpose (see Resources).
- 3). Cut plastic or wooden dowels approximately 1 inch shorter than the height of each cake tier. You will need one dowel for each turret pillar you plan on attaching to the top of the cake.
- 4). Pour approximately 1 oz. of candy coating or Wilton's Candy Melts into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave the candy on high power for one minute and then at 30-second intervals until the candy is smooth.
- 5). Attach the plastic dowels to the bottom of each turret using the melted candy as glue. Place the joined turrets and dowels on a piece of wax paper and allow the candy to cool and harden.
- 6). Press the dowels firmly into the cake so that the bottom of the turret rests on top of the cake.
- 7). Attach additional turrets to the sides of the bottom tier of the cake with royal icing or additional melted candy.
