Homemade Rigs for Fishing
- Gather various parts needed to make homemade rigs. Get a barrel swivel, two 1/8-ounce jigs or larger, if fishing out in choppy water, and leader material in the three-foot range.
- Make a Palomar knot to tie the barrel swivel to the leader. One end of the leader line should be two times longer than the opposite end, if the line is doubled.
- Tie another Palomar knot to the jig on each ragged end of the leader. Experiment with different materials if they are handy, such as jig heads with soft, plastic bodies.
- These rigs can catch a variety of popular sporting and eating fish. If properly assembled, a homemade rig can be just as good, if not better, than a store-bought rig.
