Things to Do if You Are Heartbroken

    Personal Time

    • Because you're single for the first time in awhile, you can take some time and energy to focus on only you. While this sounds selfish, there's nothing wrong with giving yourself a little rest and relaxation to feel better and restore your emotional health. Engage in your favorite hobbies or activities, and relearn who you are. This is important to do before you jump into a new relationship.

    Social Life

    • Spend time with friends and family. If you spent the majority of your time with your significant other or with his social group, you might need to rebuild your social life. This can be difficult and take time and patience, but in the end it's worth it. You'll have a support group and a stable circle of friends whom you'll be able to rely on and spend time with whether you're single or not.

    Schedule

    • Pack your schedule, whether it's with work, personal endeavors or your social life. Keeping busy takes your mind off your relationship and distracts you until you don't really need the distraction anymore. Focusing on other things -- particularly people who truly need help -- will help you to put your situation in perspective. Volunteer for a cause, and fill your time contributing to your community.

    Forgiveness

    • More than forgiving your partner for any wrongs he has done to you or hurt she has caused you, you need to forgive yourself. If you're continually beating yourself up for things you did or didn't do or say, you won't truly leave the relationship behind you and move on. Learn from any mistakes you made, decide what you don't want to repeat in the future and forgive yourself.
