• Women in the 1980s became self-professed hairdressers, learning techniques in washing, dying, drying and sculpting. At their disposal were cans of hairspray, tubes of gel and canisters of mousse. Using product, women formed and shaped hair in every direction. Mohawks to "mullets" and "candy-floss" to "wedges", women crafted their locks before leaving home.

• Makeup in the '80s became a power move for many women. Big, bold statements were made using bright colors, heavy tones and mascara. Lips were lined in black and painted in rogue. Blue, green, mauve and orange became part of the color palette. Glitter and beauty moles popped up on many faces, influenced by rock stars, politicians and actresses.
  
  

Women's Fashion: Shirts & Jackets

• Going crazy for colors, women in the '80s chose neon, pink and primary colors. Their sweaters were oversize, revealing shoulders and mid-drifts. They wore tiny miniskirts, knickers and calf-high boots. Many chose to wear thick belts around their waists, providing a casual change in costume from top to bottom. Some women sported power suits with shoulder pads.

• Covering up and standing out, women wore power suits, exercise gear and spandex, whether they were at the gym, in the office or out with friends. Their choices were endless with stonewashed jeans, miniskirts, colored hose and power suits.

• Accessorizing in the 1980s was simple: Grab whatever was close and put it on. Whether it was nine multicolored rubber bracelets, two large hoop earrings or ten press-on nails, women added color, layers and style to their person. Other popular accessories included watches, chokers, belly button rings, banana clips, headbands and feathers.

  From pink dyed hair to Mohawks, men's hair in the '80s took on a whole new persona.
  
  The yuppies kept their closely cropped hair, but others ventured off into long, frizzy hair below the shoulders, layered or feathered, making some women envious. Urban punks wore spiked Mohawks, multiple colors, and shaved the sides of their heads.
  
  

Men's Fashion: Face

• Copying actors, athletes, musicians and politicians, men chose conservative to radical self-expressions, wearing cotton suits and Ray-Ban sunglasses like the characters Crockett and Tubbs from "Miami Vice" or tattooed and pierced their faces like favorite punk rock musicians.

• Denim jackets over black rock band T-shirts or studded leather jackets with sleeveless shirts men clashed their clothing. Men covered up in a variety of new fabrics, including Lycra, Merino-wool, silky-polyester and poly-cotton.

• Classy hipsters wore corduroy, while head-banging rockers wore tight stonewashed jeans. Whether sporting a boom box and parachute pants at the park or leather pants and denim, men dressed to fit the occasion.

• From Crocodile Dundee hats to colored braces, men were into wearing whatever made them feel genuine. Men wore a rhinestone glove, high top shoes, plastic friendship bracelets or an Omega watch.. From Reebok high tops to Converse Chuck Taylor's, men lavished in style.
