How to Tighten or Replace Coolant Hoses in a Hyundai Sonata
- 1). Ensure the engine on the Hyundai Sonata has cooled and remove the radiator cap. Lift the front end onto jack stands from the jacking point directly behind the front wheels. Place a bucket or catch can beneath the radiator drain plug. Release enough coolant to keep fluid from leaking when removing the hoses.
- 2). Loosen the hose clamps with a pair of pliers for spring clamps or a nut driver for screw clamps. Pull the hose from the fittings. Cut difficult hoses with a knife and peel the rubber off the nipple.
- 3). Prepare the new hose by dipping the ends into clean coolant. Slide the clamps onto the hose and push the hose onto the fittings. Turn the hose around if one end is difficult to get on.
- 4). Close the radiator drain plug if necessary and fill the radiator with a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water. Replace the radiator cap and start the Sonata engine. Look for leaks around the fittings and add coolant as needed when the radiator has circulated.
