How Not To Fail

Unstoppable achievers appreciate that success is earned in degrees and not overnight. Often times and naturally so, a burning desire to turn our lives around and the sense of urgency to accomplish our dreams can leave us impatient. While being impatient is not necessarily a bad thing (and in fact can sometimes be a good thing because it addresses procrastination and keeps us focused on our dream), if it not kept under control, it can become counterproductive.

When we become in too much of a hurry to succeed, we tend not to think through our plans thoroughly. We tend to overlook the important facets of our strategy. We tend not to take a long hard look at our set-backs and learn from them. Instead we jump back on the wagon too quickly and run the risk of repeating the same errors again. This can lead to a cycle of frustration. If we have all the other factors in place, and persist, we will eventually succeed; however the journey will take longer and will be more emotionally tasking.

Being patient does not imply procrastination and putting off for tomorrow what we must do today to propel us closer to our dreams. Being patient means that instead of attempting large goals in one go, in attempt to get there faster, we break our goals down into smaller achievable milestones. This approach allows us to keep the bigger picture in mind constantly while allowing us to focus intensely on accomplishing one task that will get us closer to achieving our goals. It might appear counter-intuitive, but this approach actually allows us to achieve our goals faster. We spend more time and attention focused on what we need to do now, to get us a step closer to that dream.

This type of focus means that we spend more time thinking about what we need to do implying that we spend less time making mistakes. On the other hand, trying to do multiple things at once in order to get there faster means that we become more spread thin, dont think things through, make more mistakes and take longer to achieve our dreams.

Breaking down goals into smaller achievable milestones with definite timelines is one of the primary ways unstoppable achievers tend to succeed. Besides its a smarter approach because not only does it make the goal less daunting but every time a milestone is accomplished, it motivates you to press further to the next milestone and keep pushing. Milestones are like signposts to our goals.

They let us know if we are on track, how we are going to get there and how close we are. Like in life, without signposts getting lost on a journey becomes all too easy. Furthermore, when things get tough you are less likely to give up on your goals too easily because you can clearly see just how far youve come, how many milestones you have surpassed and how much closer you are to your dream.

One of the reasons many people give up all too easily on their ambitions is because they have not without dissected their overall goal into clear and identifiable markers. Without having set up clear identifiable milestones that will lead them to their dreams, they fail to appreciate just how much effort they have already put in and fail to grasp how much closer they are to realising their goals.
