Writing is a job yet it differs from other ways of earning a living because you don't have to commute every day, you can work from home, you can choose your own hours and you have no boss looking over your shoulder all day.
The downside of this, however, is that when you first become a writer it's hard to make begin because you don't know where to start and it's hard to make yourself actually sit down and start writing.
And if you're not careful this can lead to lack of interest and enthusiasm in your work.
So before you can begin a writing project you need to make sure you have the right strategies in place to achieve more and make more money.
First of all you have to forget all about procrastination.
Don't think about what you have to do, or how much you think you can't do it or don't want to do it.
Instead sit down and take immediate action.
You need to have a clear understanding of what your goal is for the writing task you have to do.
You need to know how many words you need to write, be certain of your topic and from what angle you need to be approaching it, and know how much time you have to complete your writing assignment.
To work productively and efficiently you must also make sure that you are equipped with everything you need.
Make sure you have to right tools before you start (paper, pad, pen/computer, printer).
Next make sure you have all the necessary information you need.
Do your research and take copious notes and arrange your information in the right order for the piece of writing you're going to do.
Make sure you have a beginning, middle and end.
Now to be discipline and committed to your task ahead you need to stay focused on your work.
Just forget about anything that may distract you.
Don't answer the door or the phone while you're writing.
If you can go and work somewhere where you won't here the phone ringing or someone knocking at your door (sit outside, at the library, in a café, in the garage).
When you use the computer, turn off your automatic spelling/grammar checker or this will distract your concentration.
Just stay focused on what you're doing and have enough discipline to keep going.
But as well as working quickly, you also need to work well and produce great writing, although your first draft is meant to be terrible so don't sweat it too much to start with.
Just keep working and keep writing and you can go back and edit your work later.
Just stay focused and stay disciplined and write as much as you can, while you can, because later you'll regret the time you've wasted.
