    • 1). Place your Windows XP installation CD-ROM into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.

    • 2). Restart your computer. As opposed to booting off of your hard drive and loading Windows Vista as your computer normally does, it will instead boot off of the CD-ROM in your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive and load the Windows XP installation utility.

    • 3). Allow the Windows XP installation utility to search your computer for existing copies of a Microsoft operating system. Once it does, highlight the listing for "Windows Vista" and press the "Delete" key to mark it for uninstallation. Press the "Y" key to confirm this selection and the installation utility will automatically continue.

    • 4). Continue to select the "Next" option. The Windows XP installation utility will format your hard drive, which will uninstall Windows Vista and erase all files on the drive. It will then copy all of the Windows XP setup files to your hard drive, at which point the operating system will begin to uninstall itself.

    • 5). Pay close attention to the Windows XP installation process. Occasionally you will be asked to input information (like providing a user name or naming your computer), and the installation utility will pause and not continue without your input. Once the installation utility has finished your computer will restart. Windows Vista will be gone and Windows XP will be in its place.
