How to Make Lecterns

    • 1). Cut your lectern pieces using the circular saw or table saw. Cut one 8 feet by 1-1/2 feet, and then cut it into two pieces, 4 feet by 1-1/2 feet.

    • 2). Make the pieces for the front of the pulpit (2' x 4'2-1/2"), the shelf (1'6" x 1'10-1/2") and the top (2' x 2'2"). Make a 30-degree bevel on one of the short sides of the front piece with the saw by setting the blade to the correct angle.

    • 3). Mark the front and side pieces with a pencil 2'6" from the bottom, using the square to make a consistent line.

    • 4). Attach the sides to the front using wood glue and nails. Run the wood glue down the long edges of the side panels before putting them flush with the front and nailing. You can use a hammer and small nails or a pin nailer.

    • 5). Glue the podium top to the front and sides, putting a line of glue all along the top of the front and sides. Nail it in.

    • 6). Run wood glue around three sides of the shelf piece and attach it to the podium from the inside. Have a friend hold it in place while you nail it from the outside. Sand the entire podium using fine grit sandpaper and use wood filler to cover up any nail holes.
