Tooth loss is inevitable yet it's something that almost all of us do not look forward to. A cosmetic dentist is the best person to visit when it comes to discussing what your options are when it comes to tooth loss, one of which would be getting a teeth implant.

Overview

These days, teeth implants are now increasingly replacing almost all types of removable partial dentures and bridges. In general, dental implants are often made of titanium and are surgically attached to your jaw bone. These fixtures can act as an anchor for a set of false teeth or any naturally-appearing false tooth. Most implants are often placed in the lower jaw, usually in the front. If you're looking into getting one, you should visit a cosmetic dentist as soon as possible. Since this is a surgical procedure, your jaw bone will be placed under anesthesia and pain can vary from one person to another.

Teeth Implant Candidate

You can get a dental implant if you're missing one or more of your teeth. However, it is important for you to have enough bone in the missing tooth portion. If there isn't enough bone in the area, a bone graft is necessary. Implants usually lasts a lifetime and the crown on top usually stay for ten to fifteen years.

Types of Teeth Implants

Many of the implants used today are made of titanium and are often successful in fusing with the recipient's living bone, often referred to as osseointegration. There are three common types of dental implants today: the root form implant, plate form implant and the subperiosteal implants.

Root form implants are the most common type of dental implants. It is often remodeled after a tooth's root and is recommended when there are plenty of depth and width to your jawbone. The number of bone preparations and incisions often depend on the number of implants needed. It usually takes three to six months for this implant to heal. Afterwards, the implant is removed and the abutment is linked.

On the other hand, plate form implants are recommended if your jawbone is extremely narrow for bone grafting. This is highly recommended for this purpose due to its long and flat shape that will correctly fit into the recipient's narrow jawbone. Like root form implants, the number of bone preparations and incisions often depend on the number of implants needed.

Subperiosteal implants are advised in recipients with not enough bone height or width for either root form or plate form implant. This type of implant is often custom-made to stay on top of one's jawbone and beneath the gums (like the plate form implant) but is implanted using two different methods- either through getting an impression of the recipient's jawbone or through a CT scan.

Costs of Teeth Implants

Teeth implants are costly. However, if you're really interested in getting a smile makeover- Boston style, a teeth implant is worth it. A cosmetic dentist will often assess your health profile in order to determine your needs as each recipient have different reactions to the surgical procedure.
